An old guy at the post office today tried to whisper to his wife
'I thought these young girls only wore long dresses in the winter?'
Little comments from cute old guys stick in my mind today because
I had a pretty rough week at work last week.

A lot of emotions about the not so old guy who I was joking with one sec
then doing chest compressions on him the next.
My heart goes out to his family and especially his cute wife.
Life is too short, enjoy every moment.

Since today is the last day of nurses week I thought I should do a top ten list.

Top ten reasons
You know you're an LDS Hospital ICU nurse.....
#10 You wash your hands before you go to the bathroom
#9 You can talk about poo and sputum while eating
#8 You go home and still hear ventilator, monitor, and pump alarms
#7 Rectal tubes are your best friend
#6 You see the same order 'Ambulate tid' written everyday even though you already ambulate tid
#5 You know the best way to restrain someone
#4 You know it's busy when you get the 0500 text message
#3 You praise the person who gives you a Propofol drip and live it up the whole shift
#2 You know that Propofol drip will be gone by the next time you get there
and the #1 reason
You'll never forget your stop cock again after that last bronch
I just want to say I have the best coworkers and without the amazing team I work with my day would be horrible! Thanks LDSH MSICU staff you guys rock!!
PS my scrubs are on their way!!

Today I went to an 8 hour training to learn how to use a new simulation doll my hospital bought, since I'm on the code blue team I was kind of interested on what this simulation doll could do. WHOA, this doll can do everything! It can speak, cry, you can change breath sounds, heart sounds, bowel sounds, place a chest tube, IO, IV, intubate and actually shock the doll. It was impressive!

After the training I am on call from 7pm-7am tomorrow, I'm soooo happy that the unit is down on the census and that I haven't been called in yet! It would make for a long day, especially since I have to be to work tomorrow at 6am anyways to train the charge nurses on being a first responder...man it's a busy couple of day!
Other than work, I thought I'd like my outfit... but umm its alright. I didn't want to wear stilettos since I might be doing chest compressions in a scenario and so I wore these wedges...well wedges and straight legged jeans don't go together. The rest of the outfit is good, just wish I would have picked some different jeans. Oh well we live and learn!

I can't believe I'm almost to 100 followers...amazing! Thank you all for reading, it really means a lot!
Well I'm going to watch the debate now, then make it to the gym...hopefully!

Last night when I went to sleep @ 9:30 I had a plan to make a picture for the Lake, do my homework, and lounge around all day. Well my coworker Amber had other plans for me, she text me around 830 AM and said 'Come to the Intensive Medicine Clinical Program Conference'. At first I thought...It would be fun but it started around 7:30 and I don't want to be the loser who shows up super late...It would be informative...but man I'm going to be late. Whatever, I got up, took a 2 min shower, got ready, and made it down there all within an hour! This was a miracle because the location is about 30 minutes drive time away! I made it right in time to see the director of our ICU speak and let me say I'm so glad I went today. Although I spaced meeting with the cabinet guy this morning, which I do feel horrible about I learned about what's to come to my ICU, how things are changing, and more information about a certain disease process that I deal with regularly. But yes I was still the loser that showed up late...oh well!

So the pictures above are 2 of the amazing doctors I work with, Dr Clemmer in the top picture and Dr Beninati in the lower one. I am grateful to work with such intelligent men who love to teach, and I know I learned from them as they presented today. So thank you! I posted more pictures to my instagram if you are interested @Nikki1156

On to more blogger business, did you catch my post on Blissful and Domestic yesterday? If not run on over there and check it out! I love posting over there, it's always a party! And welcome new readers! We are almost to 100! When we get there I think we will have to celebrate with a little treat!

Thanks Amber for getting me out of bed and taking my pictures today! You are a super star!!
(Addendum...Thanks to my boss Nancy for telling Amber to text me! haha)

then the bike died :( Blog I want you to meet my motorcycle. This is a 1972 Honda CL350 and I love it, but for some reason it doesn't really love me back. The more I love it (aka spend money on it) the more it will love me back though. So after today's ride it gets its own new pair of boots, carburetor boots haha.

(I felt silly in this picture)
So I've been at the hospital for 9 days straight and man they have been crazy. Thank goodness they weren't all 12 hr shifts because I think I would have had to check myself into the Psych unit. But I've meet some great family members and spend some sad times with them.
Floated down and worked in the ER and met some more friends.
and officially passed my year mark of being a nurse, THANK goodness that year is over!
On to the next year!
Hope you guys all have a great weekend, I'm going to the Price Is Right tonight at Kingsbury Hall! Hopefully I get called down!

PS Always wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle please!
Thanks,
Love-ME

Man the past 3 days at work have been pretty good. Had a couple of hiccups but not enough to ruin the awesome patient I had and her family.  Sometimes you get a patient that doesn't appreciate anything you do for them or anything you try for them; you simply can't make them happy. Those patients are frustrating only because you know you've tried all your options and nothing has worked.  But then you get those families that are friendly, understanding, and just enjoyable to be around. Those families remind you of why you wanted to be a nurse in the first place and how much you love your job. I had a family and patient like that the past 3 days and I will never forget them, they made my last 3 days wonderful.

Today I got to hangout with my awesome nephew for a few hours while his mom went on a field trip with his brother! He is so cute, I taught him to say 'beep beep I'm a jeep' and it was so stinkin adorable! Makes me want to have a few of my own.

Anyways Boomer is going to the vet shortly so I'm just going to finish with my outfit. Here is my outfit today, can I just say that I love my shirt and belt! This shirt was kinda an exchange that was rushed and I really didn't look at it much, just grabbed it and went. I didn't even notice it was a pull-over until I got him and went to put it on lol! Belt is from Old Navy, does anyone else feel like they've stepped up the game? Everything there is awesome!

Ok off to the vet, poor Booms got to go get some shots :(

Saturday night I worked a grave, got home Sunday morning then after showering finally got to bed around 0830. I was woken up about 1:30pm to get ready for church. Can I just say I was stinkin tired. 5 hours of sleep is just not enough for me, or maybe it's not the actual amount of sleep but the lounging around I missed out on after I woke up. That's my favorite part about working graves, you have a GREAT excuse of why your in your pjs all day long and people totally agree with you!

Anyways here is my Sunday attire. Love the new colorful pieces I added to my collections the other day, sure I overspent by way too much but oh well I've really enjoyed them. This skirt is from Target also(as were my yellow mellow pants I wore the other day). Its a great skirt because 1. The color 2. The length and 3. The fabric-it's slightly stretchy! I love stretchy clothes!

What are your new colorful trends this spring??

Well hope everyone has a great Monday. Here is my weekly schedule.
Monday-sleep then work meeting(lame totally ruins my pj house cleaning day)
Tuesday- I'm on-call but the units been so busy lately I'm planning on working at 0700
Wednesday- DAY OFF!!
Thursday- DAY OFF #2!!
Friday-sleep then work
Saturday sleep then work
Sunday-sleep then work

The reason why I say that is because I'M WEARING A SKIRT!! I usually don't wear a skirt, and its even more rare for me to wear a skirt when it's cold outside! Its not that I don't have any skirts to wear, believe me I have a whole closet full. So here it is...

Do you know what made me want to wear a skirt today??? My green tights! I love them soo much, they make me happy lol!

The last 2 days I worked and they were fun. I really like my new co-workers and can't wait to get to know them more over the time. The doctors are finally more friendly and warming up to me, Dr Pearl was so intimidating to me. Every time I would be around him I'd get all shy and it was driving me nuts. Now I'm to the point where I can joke around with him and I can see him being one of my fav docs at work as time goes on. At work right now everyone is going through a hard time and moral is slightly down, so I took it upon myself to try and make things slightly better by writing at least 3 'high fives' a shift. A high five is when you recognize someone for doing something outstanding or something you really appreciated. I know at my other job I personally felt more appreciated every time I got a high five on the board and it made me have more pride in the work that I did.  So I'm going to try it out and see if it makes a difference.

That's what I did over the weekend, what did you guys do??

November has finally come which means snow is on it's way! And guess what folks...IT SNOWED!! Man the only thing was I was watching it fall from the inside of a hospital room. I think my patient was getting sick of me saying a few things yesterday. 1. "Take a deep breath and cough for me, thank you" and 2. "I love the snow, it's so pretty. I can't wait to bundle up and go snowboarding." Every time I would go into her room she would pretend to fall asleep so she wouldn't have to talk to me, at least it seemed like it. Oh well, luckily for her most people don't remember their ICU stay and she wont even remember my annoying comments about the awesome snow. lol!

Highlight # 2 of the week(and it's only wed, this is an awesome week so far!) Tomorrow is my last ICU class!! Woot Woot! Don't get me wrong I love learning, but I'm just not sure I'm learning much in this class. I can't wait to just going back to working 3 days a week. I would never make it in the normal workville working 5 days a week.

Highlight #3-Pay day is Friday! Enough said lol

Highlight #4-I took a Fun Little Outfit picture today or I'm now going to abbreviate it to FLO lol a FLO what a silly abbreviation! I really like my outfit today. I think I've only worn this jacket which I got from Target once and I felt as if it was too fancy for my style. But I really like how it looks with this plaid shirt underneath it with jeans. PS the plaid shirt is from Khols and if you go right now it's 50% off, I bought it last night! lol

That's it folks! I'm off to go to Harmons to buy some tuna steaks...Hubs says I really need to try those for dinner tonight. So we are goin for it!

Celebration dinners with friends are always fun! Celebration dinners to celebrate that we all passed the NCLEX is even better! These are all my nursing school friends(minus one). I'm so proud of all of us and I'm so excited to see us grow and learn as nurses. We had to all push our husbands to the end of the table so we could talk nursing and our new jobs.  We laughed about stupid silly mistakes that are non-threatening to the patients life and nursing situations we have learned on the job! I love these girls and I'm so excited to be taking our journeys together!

Becoming a nurse has always been a life long goal of mine and when I say life long I said I wanted to be a nurse during my Kindergarten graduation! I'm so happy to see that I've checked something off my list and know that I am capable of completing anything. There was times when I felt hopeless about getting into nursing school and searched for other majors, but I kept up with it and 3 years later I finally got to start my journey.  I'm grateful that I stuck with it and can tell my future kids to never give up!

PS our dinner was at a mall and I had to go walk around Anthropology...man good thing everything in that place is slightly pricey, BUT I made it out there with nothing in my hands! Only 10 more day until there are no more rules!

Have a great weekend everyone!!
