Hello! My name is Lauren from Mintgem
First, I need to thank Nikki for asking me to guest post!
Winter can sometimes make it tricky for dressing in anything other than a huge bulky coat, snow boots and gloves. Today Im going to give you some of my tips on how to still look fashionable during the snowy season!

I am a huge fan of hats! Beanies specifically for the super cold days!

Another must is scarves! Scarves that have a fun pattern,
or bright colors always add a little extra flare to any boring, old winter outfit.
Plus, keeps you extra warm!

And last, the absolute must for me, is a black leather jacket! Throwing it on with any outfit adds a little edge! For extra warm, layer it with a sweater or basic zip hoodie underneath!

So those are a few of my absolute musts for winter fashion!
I hope you enjoyed reading! Come stop by my blog and say hello!

I did this post on a blog I contribute to monthly, thought I'd share it with you guys here too!

Not going to lie Valentine's Day is not a big deal to me. My ultimate Valentines date would be in my jammers cuddled up with a blanket and my hubby watching a movie. BUT not everyone thinks the same as I do, so I thought I'd do 4 different outfits from casual to fancy ready for any type of Valentine date!

The Casual Look
 / Cardigan-F21 Similar  /  Pants-Kohls similar  / Tanktop-Urbanwear similar / Shoes-Dolce Vita similar / Headband-F21 /
Hearts and red pants are perfect for a nice casual outing to the movies or for an all day look before changing into the stunning night outfit.

The Classic Look
/ Pants-H&M similar / Blouse-Marshalls similar / Boots-Naughty Monkey similar/
All black to be classy and sexy, and the pant option is way warmer than wearing a skirt or dress in the snowy weather as we have here in Utah. The gold polka dots and the tuxedo pants adds the glamour to the pair of pants and blouse for the special night.

 The Dressy Look
 / Skirt-H&M similar/ Peplum top-F21 similar / Tights-Nordstrom Rack similar / Heels-Forever Young Shoes similar/
You can't go wrong with colored tights, a peplum top, and classic skirt for a nice dinner downtown. You can spiff up the outfit with fun colored tights, and the colors pink, red, or purple are perfect for the night.

 The Fancy Look
/ Skirt-Bohme similar/ Blouse, which is actually a dress-DVF via Nordstrom Rack kinda similar /
 / Heels-Jessica Simpson similar /

This outfit shouts 'I'm ready for the 5 star restaurant Mister Right reserved 2 months ago' The texture screams 'I'm sexy' enough said ;)

Outerwear
/ Coat-Tulle similar /

February in Utah it's still snowing, so you always need a coat to go along with any outfit and since it's Valentines Day red is the perfect color!

Well there you have it, my thoughts from causal to fancy for the Valentines Day! Thanks for reading and come visit me here anytime!

Hello soon-to-be friends :)

I'm Marsa from The DayLee Journal and today we're talkin about Christmas traditions! To be honest when I heard "Christmas Traditions" the only thing I could think of was opening presents and eating a big feast haha. In my home, Christmas meant decorating the tree, putting lights up around the house, opening presents, eating a feast, and spending time with family. That was the best part. I grew up in Hawaii so when Christmas rolled around, we never had snow. Sad... I know. So once I moved up to Utah, I just absolutely fell  in love with the pure whiteness that December brings. It was just one of things to me. You know, the "you only see it in the movies" kinda thing. The white snow, the perfectly decorated gingerbread looking houses, cute winter coats, and the snow topped Christmas trees. I just love it. Last December I got married to my Mr. so this year, I'm excited for us to start our own family traditions! I'm not sure what that is yet but maybe we'll have a snowball fight or something. Hah some tradition huh? But hey, we all start somewhere.

Thanks Nikki for this opportunity!

Feel free to visit me at The DayLee Journal!

Christmas is my favorite Holiday, always has been. One of the best parts would be the family traditions, I look forward to them all year long.

One of my favorite parts would be our Christmas decor. My mom goes all out. The neighbors all bring their kids over, just to take a tour. The piece de resistance is always- the tree.

This is our new tree, but the old one was very loved, and went out with a bang...

My mom PACKS our Christmas tree with so many ornaments. It's beautiful, stunning, and my dad thinks it's excessive. A few years ago, as my mom placed the last ornament on, she stepped back to admire her work. She claims it was the most beautiful the tree had ever looked, but none of us would ever know if that were true. Because that old tree's stand snapped and twelve feet of tree came flying down on my mom where she stood. TIMBER! The family came running to find my mom's arms and legs sticking out the side of the tree, muffled "help!"s, and a big mess.

Well, some of the ornaments had managed to hold on. So my dad, being the wonderful fix-it man that he is, managed to fashion a brace for the tree. Although it wasn't enough... so they took some rope and tied a BOWLING BALL to the back of the tree to anchor it down. No one would see it of course because it was hidden against the wall, but WE knew, and laughed... except my mom, I think she cried.

We now have a new tree, he is strong enough to bear the weight of all the ornaments. For now...

Of course all of the other touches around the house bring it all together, but I love our Christmas tree. I can't get enough of it at Christmas time and sometimes I just sit and look at it.

I'm Aubry, blogger of beauty & truth and lover of baking delicious treats, especially during the holidays.

After all, it is that time of year--No gift is better than one that is tasty and homemade.

Rather than delivering traditional plates of sweetly decorated sugar cookies, I'm spicing things up this year with my holiday roasted & spiced almonds.  They are a perfect savory alternative to all those festive fudges and brittles.

And did I mention how this recipe smells while baking?  The aroma of cinnamon-y goodness is bound to fill your home with tons of Christmas cheer.

Holiday Roasted & Spiced Almonds

adapted from Two Peas & Their Pod

2 egg whites
2 tbs water
5 cups raw whole almonds
4 tbs white sugar
6 tbs brown sugar
3 tbs ground cinnamon
1 tbs ground nutmeg
1 tbs ground cloves
1 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 250 degrees, and line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, lightly beat egg whites and water until frothy bubbles appear.  Set aside.

Combine almonds and egg mixture in a large bowl.  Using a wooden spoon, mix almonds, making sure that the egg mixture coats all the almonds.

Once almonds are completely coated, begin pouring in the sugars and the spices.  Continue mixing the almonds to ensure that everything gets spread all around.

Spread almonds evenly onto a lined, large cookie sheet.

Bake almonds for 1 hour, stirring every 20 minutes to keep from burning.  An even roast is the desired result.

After 1 hour, remove almonds from oven, and let them cool for about 15 minutes.  Store room temperature almonds in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Happy baking!

XO,

Hey all! Today you get to hear from this pretty lady! She's a doll so make sure to check her blog out! Thanks Beverly for doing your first guest post here!

Hello Fashions on the Fly readers! I'm Beverly and I'm the blogger behind What a Day. This is my very first guest post(!), so don't judge me too harshly :)

Nikki had asked me to talk about my favorite holiday outfit.
This outfit is the first that came to mind; it's the outfit I wore last Christmas Eve.

(coat: Marshall's, sweater: gift, jeans: American Eagle, boots: Target, beanie: Old Navy, bow: farmer's market)

After looking through all of my old photos from last winter, it was difficult to pick just one outfit to share! So here are a few other photos of my absolutely favorite ensembles of winter, 2011.

Woo! Looking at these photos makes me remember how long my hair was and how cold it was last winter! Well, cold for southern New Mexico, anyway! This year is vastly different! It's already December and it's still about 70 degrees. I'm a little thankful for this, though :)

Feel free to stop by my blog and say hello. I could always use more bloggy friends~

Thanks for reading!
